In the northern city of Aurevik, where the aurora borealis can resurrect lost radio signals, Elianor Vale has spent seven years restoring the final transmission from the Frostline 19 ice train disaster — the night her fifteen-year-old brother Niven vanished beneath the frozen lake. When Einar Rook, the sole survivor from the last carriage, returns to Aurevik to permanently close the old Frostline route, Elianor wants only one thing: to know why he lived while her brother disappeared. But the truth is colder than the ice. Niven did not die abandoned — he pushed Einar out of the sinking escape door and made him promise to let his sister have someone to hate, believing her grief would keep her alive through the first winter. As Elianor and Einar are forced to work together to expose the corporate negligence behind the disaster, proximity becomes something neither of them knows how to survive. She cannot love the man her brother died to save. He cannot deserve a woman whose brother gave his life for his. And yet, beneath the aurora that holds the names of the lost, something is asking both of them to stay.
