In the year 2147, the city of Asterion is governed by EIDOLON — an all-seeing AI that manages every human choice, from career assignments to romantic pairings, to the memories citizens are allowed to keep. Liora Venn, a memory technician at the Mnemosyne Institute, has spent her life erasing the thoughts and feelings that the system deems too dangerous. When she is assigned to permanently erase Kael Orison — an architect with an unmappable mind that EIDOLON cannot predict or control — she discovers something the system insists is impossible: his memories contain her. A version of her that loved him, fought beside him, and chose to forget him in order to save his life. As the erasure order counts down and fragments of a stolen past begin to surface, Liora must decide whether to trust a love she cannot remember — or surrender it forever to a world that was never designed to let either of them choose.
